Saturday June 23, 2007 Hamilton Hornets 3rd XV made the long journey to Wingham on Saturday to take on the leaders of the NRU B Division (West). It was certainly a long day for Hornets 3rds with a final score of 57 - 10 in favour of Wingham. There were some bright moments however. Captain and man of the match, Johnny Red-Boots Tavares, scored the Hornets opening try after Wingham had just opened up the scoring. The Hornets then had a tough time of things for the next 50 or 60 minutes until they mounted a drive with a few minutes to go. Wingham were forced to give a way a series of penalties. On the final penalty, Chris Wynder took a quick tap and got over the line for his first Hornets' try - congratulations Chris. It was a hard day for the 3rds who only had 2 substitutes with all 3 men's sides suffering badly from injuries and with several players away on vacation. Luckily there are no games next weekend which will give some players the recovery time they need. But as we approach the mid-point of this season, it is certainly nice to think that Hamilton Hornets have been able to field 3 senior men's teams this year and have thus far not defaulted one match and not too many clubs in the NRU can make such a claim.
