August 27, 2005 Hamilton Hornets lost a heartbreaker in the Finals of the NRU B Division to the Cambridge Pirates. Cambridge clearly did their homework, and prepared them selves for a well-drilled, fit Hamilton Hornet line up. With a much-improved scrum, and key players in previously weak positions, Cambridge defeated Hamilton Hornets 15-7. The Hornets got off to a slow start where Cambridge controlled the game for the first 15 minutes. Battering an excellent defense, Cambridge managed to punch through the line with an 8-man pick up from a 5-meter scrum in Hamilton's end. At the 35-minute mark, Cambridge managed to place another ball over the Hamilton Try-Line. Half time score: Cambridge 10, Hamilton 0. The second half started with Hamilton attacking Cambridge, and at the 7-minute mark Cambridge started getting frustrated and took a yellow card for wild Hail Mary swing at Dan English….which missed. At the 13-minute mark Matt Barrett hit a rampaging Steve Riese on his inside to score his 10th try of the season. Peter Van Zyl made the conversion. With 28 minutes of the second half gone, Dan English gets yellow carded for some enthusiastic rucking. With the man advantage, Cambridge swung the ball wide, and scored a nice winger try. Final Score: Cambridge 15, Hamilton 7. Captain's Log: Match Report By: The Hamilton Hornets always welcome new Junior and Senior members. Call the club house at 905.575.3133
