Saturday June 24, 2006 The Hamilton Hornets first XV continued to exert their dominance on the NRU B division by devastating Waterloo on Saturday by a score of 78 - 0. The Hornets punched in 5 tries in the first half and followed it up with 7 tries in the second half. Sometimes the best defence is a good offence and this was certainly true on the day. Waterloo, starved of possession and forced to make tackle after tackle, were rarely able to work the ball out of their own half when they did manage to secure some possession. Three Hornets scored hat tricks. Travis Lee, Matt Barrett and Peter Van Zyl (C) all managed three tries with Van Zyl also converting nine of the scores. Other try scorers included Josh Mattiacci, Jamie Whan and Tyler Struyk. Travis Lee was named man of the match for his performance all around the park scoring three tries (no small feat for a lock forward) and for being ever present at the break-down. Hamilton go into the mid-season break having scored 240 points to their four opponents 19.
