Match Report:
Hamilton 1st XV v Waterloo

Saturday August 12, 2006

The senior men's first XV booked their promotion to the NRU A division with a comprehensive 67 - 5 win over Waterloo County RFC. In an inspiring tribute, the 1sts were clapped on to the field by the senior men's second team who formed a tunnel to greet the 1sts following their earlier win over Niagara Wasps by a close 7 - 3 score.

For the Hornets it was just another day at the office in a season that has seen them absolutely dominate all opposition that they have faced. The Hornets put 11 tries on Waterloo with the referee shortening the match because of the unevenness of the contest. Fly half, Jamie Whan, led the try scorers with a hat trick and 19-year-old, inside centre, Steve Ferreira, justified his call up to the first team by scoring a try on his debut.

The Hornets now have one match to play against Stoney Creek next Saturday with the chance to set a club record for points scored for/against in a season and with the opportunity to go undefeated in 2006.

Other try scorers included:

Jamie Whan (3), Steve Reise (2), (c) Peter Van Zyl (2), Sean Corner, Owen Clark, Tom Edwards

Final Score: Hamilton 67 - Waterloo 5
